Mark Wade has been appointed as visiting Assistant Professor of Music at Denison University in Granville, Ohio. His duties will include teaching the trumpet studio, Music Theory I, Intro to Music, the Wind Ensemble, and the Bluegrass Ensemble.
Mark Wade
joined the faculty of Denison University as affiliate instructor
of trumpet in August of 2006. Recently, he completed
his Doctoral of Musical Arts degree in trumpet performance at The Ohio State University,
where he studied with Timothy Leasure. Prior to his doctoral work at OSU,
Mark received his B.M. from Ohio Wesleyan University (1999),
and his M.M. from The Ohio State University. Mark recently
won the D.M.A. Concerto Competition and appeared with
the O.S.U. Symphony Orchestra as a soloist during the 2006/2007
season.
Mark has had the pleasure to perform on different occasions for President George
Bush Sr., Ross Perot, and the former U.S. Secretary of Defense, William S. Cohen.
While pursuing his M.M., Mark toured Austria, Slovakia and Hungary as co-principal
trumpet of the Classical Music Festival Orchestra of Eisenstadt, Austria. More
recently, Mark has appeared with the Newark-Granville Symphony Orchestra and
the Springfield Symphony Orchestra (principal trumpet) in Ohio.
Mark recently played principal trumpet on the Ohio State University Wind Symphony's
new CD entitled “The Winds of Nagual”
due to be released this fall under the Naxos recording label.
In addition to his experience as a trumpet player, Mark is also an accomplished
hammered dulcimer performer and teacher. In 1998, Mark won the National Hammered
Dulcimer Contest and can be heard on more than a dozen recordings. He has personally
released six CDs and a method book; his most recent solo hammered dulcimer CD,

Tim Leasure, Associate
Professor of Trumpet at The Ohio State University, has been reappointed
as Second Trumpet in the ProMusica Chamber Orchestra of Columbus.
Mr Leasure held the same position from 1992 - 1995, before joining
the United States Navy Band in Washington, D.C. |

Jim Stokes, DMA
candidate in Trumpet Performance and Literature, was recently
appointed Associate Professor of Trumpet at Appalachian State
University beginning in August, 2008.
Mr. Stokes is the Capital University trumpet professor, trumpet
ensemble conductor, Capital Brass Quintet director, and a coach
for small brass ensembles. He holds a master’s degree in performance
from The Ohio State University and a Bachelor’s degree in music
education from Indiana University. His teachers have included
Keig Garvin, James Stokes, Sr., William Adam and Richard Burkart.
He is formerly co-principal trumpet of the Asheville Symphony
Orchestra and Ohio Valley Symphony Orchestra.
James performs regularly with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra,
ProMusica Chamber Orchestra, the CAPA Broadway Show Series
and many other ensembles of the Central Ohio region and across
the US. He is an Artist/Performer/Adjudicator for the National
Trumpet Competition and the current chair of the Orchestral
Competition for the 2006 International Trumpet Guild Conference.
He is a member of the Capital Brass Quintet and the founding
member of the Cathedral Brass Ensemble. James is a clinician
for the Vincent Bach Corporation. |

Trumpets III will feature an
all-trumpet recital featuring solos by members of the OSU Trumpet
studio and performances by the OSU Trumpet Ensemble. The program
will include works by Torelli, Hindemith, Stevens, Haydn, Vivaldi,
de Lassus, LoPresti, Joplin and others.

Dr. Carly Johnson (D.M.A. class
of 2005) was recently appointed Assistant Professor of Trumpet
at Alabama State University in Montgomery, Alabama. Her duties
include teaching applied trumpet, directing the university trumpet
ensemble, and teaching a brass methods course for music education
majors.
Prior to her appointment at Alabama State University, Dr. Johnson taught applied
trumpet and brass ensemble at Ashland University in Ashland, Ohio for three years.
She completed the D.M.A. in trumpet performance from The Ohio State University,
the M.M. in trumpet performance from the University of Florida, and the B.M.E.
from Youngstown State University.
As a freelance musician, she has performed with the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra,
Western Reserve Opera, Ashland Symphony Orchestra, Springfield Symphony Orchestra,
West Virginia Symphony Orchestra, Columbus Symphony Orchestra, Columbus ProMusica
Chamber Orchestra, and the Columbus Bach Ensemble, in addition to performing
with touring artists including Frank Sinatra Jr., Regina Carter, Bill Holcombe
and Bobby Vinton. |

Dr. Amanda
Kriska Bekeny was recently named the Adjunct Professor of Trumpet
at Ashland University, where her duties include private instruction
of trumpet students on a weekly basis, directing the trumpet
ensemble, leading weekly master classes with the trumpet studio,
and performing in faculty chamber ensembles.
She graduated with a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree in Trumpet Performance from
The Ohio State University in December, 2005, where she was awarded the A. Peter
Costanza Award for the most Distinguished DMA Document. Amanda lives in Cleveland
and enjoys an active career as both a teacher and a performer. In addition, Amanda
is on the faculty of the Wooster Music Camp and the University of Wisconsin Summer
Music Clinic. She has also taught at Ohio Wesleyan University, Edgewood College,
and Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp.
Amanda is a member of RED {an orchestra} and the Olympic Brass Quintet. She is
a former member of the Ohio State University Faculty Chamber Orchestra, the Wisconsin
Brass Quintet, and the Ohio Light Opera Orchestra. Amanda has also performed
with the Kent-Blossom Chamber Orchestra, the Mansfield Symphony, the Canton Symphony,
the Wooster Symphony, the Metropolitan Brass Quintet, and the Columbus Bach Ensemble.
Amanda was a semi-finalist at the National Trumpet Competition in 2003 and 2004,
and in 2004 won the Accompanist’s Choice Award. She has performed live
on Wisconsin Public Radio and can be heard on several professional recordings.
Most recently, Amanda studied at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music where
she performed with the Conservatory Orchestra, Brass Ensemble, and New Music
Ensemble. |
